Day 18

Day 18- Today we started with our Phonic test (after we made applesauce). Monster did very well on his first Phonics test that covered lessons 1-10.
Here he is working hard on his test :)

Next, he worked on Math. This was very easy for him. He had to write the time for the hour. He did this with no problems. The rest (front and back) were pretty much review since it is all stuff he has already done. I did all my lesson plans for October last night and noticed we will finally be getting into the "harder" stuff soon. Like adding with double digits and money! I will finally feel like I am teaching! All our stuff right now he has picked up quickly so I am hoping he does the same with the rest!

Since today was also Johnny Appleseed's birthday, he made a little book called The Story of Preston Appleseed. I read him the story of Johnny Appleseed and he created a short story about himself and apples.

Here he is working on his book and wearing his pan hat!

Here is his very short story!

We also did Science but for some unknown reason I did not get a picture. He wrote down in his Science journal why it is bad to look at the sun!

He liked his hat!

This was just something fun. He was playing with his thinking putty I got him at the convention back in May. We bought it from Timberdoodle.

Here he is reading a book he got from the library yesterday. Bad Kitty's Christmas.

Happy birthday Johnny Appleseed! (homemade applesauce)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JOHNNY APPLESEED!
Today, I decided that since it was Johnny Appleseed's birthday we would celebrate by making applesauce!

All ingredients ready to go!

Monster helping me cut apples. I would push this thing down and he would tear them off and put them in the strainer to be washed!

He was trying to push it down himself!

Putting apples in the strainer and sneaking an apple piece!

Water in!

Cinnamon in!

Covered and ready to bake!

In the middle of baking....

All done and ready to eat. I did leave the skins on and just threw out the large ones that did not smash up well.

Doesn't he look thrilled. You would of thought that I would of learned my lesson yesterday with the banana muffins!

Got to love that face!
Yes he has had applesauce before. He loves applesauce. He even told me he was excited to eat some. Then he took a bite. I thought maybe it tasted funny being homemade. So I tried it. Nope, tasted just fine. Maybe no more cooking for awhile...

Day 17

Well I thought this morning would be the perfect morning to start off with making some banana muffins. I have been trying ways to get Monster to try new foods. I thought maybe if he helped make them he would eat them. #FAIL big time...
Helping me mix it all together.

Adding the sugar.

Mixing up some of the ingredients before adding them to our dry ones.

He is all smiles now....

He kept saying "this is gross"

Ok, so here we are taking the first bite!

And his reaction to them...

Oh yes this kid is DRAMATIC!!!!!

Yep all this after ONE BITE! Needless to say he would not eat anymore. I asked him WHY????? What is so gross about them? His answer.... because they have salt in them! You can not even taste the salt but because he helped me put it in there, he knew it was in it! So, being a teaching moment, I got out his bag of donuts he just LOVES and showed him all the gross ingredients in them...including SALT! Thinking ok if he sees that donuts have salt in them too he won't eat the donuts... boy was I wrong. So much for him helping me cook.

Math- At least this was easier than getting him to eat a banana muffin! We worked on word problems and then reviewed some other lessons we have been working on.

Phonics- Today we worked on adding ay/ai/ee//ea to letters to make words. We also did a review because tomorrow he will be having his first Phonics test. We also read out of his Phonics book.

Social Studies- We finished our lesson about Pennsylvania today. We learned about their state animal: White Tail Deer. Beautiful animal. We also has a taste test with chocolate and to my surprise (considering the muffin thing) he liked the white chocolate. I am not a fan of white chocolate. I prefer dark chocolate!

Have a great day!
