Got to LOVE Target!

I have a love-hate relationship with my local Target. Some days they have great things/deals, some days not so much. My favorite part of Target is their dollar spot! Best Thing Ever! It sucks you right in too since it is right by the front door! So last night we went to Target to get Hubby so red clothing...He left for camp with his 5th grade boys this morning... Well first stop was the DOLLAR SPOT! I could have picked up everything there! They have some great items right now! I got Monster a Math Bingo game, three different reading books, and wipe off addition cards! I was going to make some from an idea on Pinterest but now I don't have too! YAY! I also got a bucket with three different spots to hold his items while he works. I literally had to make myself walk away before I bought everything! They also have some great treasure box prizes too! Markers, erasers, pencils, fun little toys! I will be going back to get some of those as incentives for Monster! I also hit up the school supply area and went ahead and got some markers, blank notecards for his sight words and a little note card file holder that I will use to keep his sight words in. I also got a composition book that I will personalize for him as his Math journal. I am getting very excited about Homeschooling!!

The three books I got were: Sharks ( Nature Series) 50 Great States ( Fast Fact Book) and a Reading Comprehension book (all about animals around the world). They all do say grade 2-4 but Monster does great with reading so he will have no problem with these books!

Check out your local Target!

Watercolor Art

I have been trying to find ways to keep Monster busy other than letting him play on the Wii ( he would stay on it all day if I would let him ). I found this idea on Pinterest and since I already had a canvas I thought we would try it out! I learned a couple things along the way too!
1. Only use Crayola brand watercolors. I used another brand since it was what we had and the colors were so dull we kept having to go back over them.
2. Use a smaller canvas. Mine is a large one that we reused and it took a lot of time.

Monster had fun with it though! That is what really matters!

Also make sure the paint stays really wet when the salt gets poured on it. I ended up using a spray bottle to spray more water since the paint was drying too fast!

Materials needed:
Canvas
Elmers glue ( In the original post she says you can use either the clear or white glue)
Watercolors (USE CRAYOLA BRAND!!!)
Salt

Steps:
Let child paint
Throw on some glue however they want it :)
Add some salt
Watch the colors soak up in the salt!

Monster loved this. I think this would be fun for ages 3 and up!

Monster exploring...

I recently (Monday) took some time to go through some of Monsters toys. We had clutter and I wanted to get rid of it. I found Monster's rock collection and also found some plastic dinos that were hiding in the bottom of a bucket. I put the dinos and rocks out for him to explore. Today he wandered over to it and has been playing with them for awhile now. He is using the rocks to build houses/caves. He is also using his blue rocks as water for each of them.
Here is T-Rex and his cave with his water!

This dinosaur says "what are you looking at?"

He was attempting another cave.

He was trying to find rocks that would match up to the same height.

He said " These are the same height but this one is too skinny and won't stand up if I put a rock on top to make the cave."

Math Trees

I wanted to find a fun way for Monster to work on his math skills. Other than a text book. We will be using Horizon Math, but I wanted something hands on as well. I found an idea and just made it to fit. Since we will be started "school" in Sept I wanted something along the Fall theme. So I decided on apple trees. I have only made a few "apples" at the moment but I will be adding more. I did both addition and subtraction problems. Right now we are only working on problems up to 10. Once we move up to twenty I will add to our trees. I will also create new themes for this work box so Monster doesn't get tired of the same thing.

Now I just need to laminate them... If only I had a small one for the house it would be so much easier!

Where we have been!!

Monster and I went down to Houston, Texas to visit my mom, sister and her twins! We stayed for the whole week! On Monday, we drove down to Galveston! Monster loved the beach!

He did not like the salt water in his mouth lol!!

My boy is getting so tan!
So this is where we were last week! Now that we are back it is time to start getting ready OFFICIALLY for our first year of homeschooling!!!
